Swimming Badge Completion Test & Party

Greetings Summer Campers,

This message is for all summer campers, and in particular those summer campers who participated in the swimming merit badge during camp.  The 14 scouts who took this course, and the pre-requisite swim instruction held prior to camp, have completed all the requirements for this merit badge with one exception.  El Rancho Cima would not allow the scouts to complete requirement 9 because thier facilities did not meet the safe swim requirements for this activity.  The incomplete activity is as follows:

#9: Following the guidelines set in the BSA Safe Swim Defense, in water at least 7 feet deep, show a standing headfirst dive from a dock or pool deck.  Show a shallow dive, also from the dock or pool deck.

To complete this final requirement, we are planning to meet with our swim instructors next SUNDAY, AUGUST 4th at 4:00pm at the Cinco Ranch South Ranch pool across from Beck Jr. High.  This activity will be conducted in a manner similar to the swim test that we conducted prior to camp.  The activity should take no more than 5 minutes per scout, and probably around an hour to complete the entire group.

We can then move on to general fun in the pool and cooking hamburgers and hot dogs.  We are planning to have burgers/dogs and soft drinks. Those planning to eat are asked to bring a few dollars each to cover the cost.  You are also welcome to bring a dessert to share.

Additional note: Scouts who are participating in the swimming merit badge also need to send Mrs. Ann Ewell a copy of their scout handbook showing thay have completed Requirement #3.
