Texas Skies - Skills Discovery Day (Sat.Mar.31)

Saturday, March 31st, the weekend before camporee, Texas Skies Chapter is hosting OA Skills Discovery Day at Katy HS Outdoor Learning Center. OA Skills Day is an opportunity for the 1st year scouts of your troop to learn the scout skills necessary for camporee to be an enjoyable experience.

Skills day is put on by the OA and staffed by volunteering older scouts

Skills day is designed to introduce the scout skills used at Camporee to 1st-year scouts and par+cularly webelos who just joined boy scouts

March 31st, the weekend before Camporee. Dropoff is at 8:00am and pickup is at 12:30pm

Katy HS Outdoor Learning Center (6301 S. Stadium Lane Katy, TX 77494)

The cost is 10$ per scout, lunch is provided. 

Scoutmaster Note: You will not be able to get requirements signed off at Skills Discovery Day; however, it is an opportunity to learn skills that you can then demonstrate to adult leaders in Troop 584 at Camporee for sign off.

The Annual FREE YOUTH KIDFISH tournament will be on 3/5/17, 1:00pm-4:00pm, at Mary Jo Peckham Park at 5597 Gardenia Lane, Katy, TX, 77493 for kids up to 16 years old which is open to the public. Registration starts at 12:00 noon. Bring one completed reg. form attached for each kid. There will be KIDFISH shirts and KIDFISH small trophies available to buy for $10. each for participating.


600 catfish will be stocked by the TPWD and Harris County Precinct 3 on Saturday, 3/4/17. There will be a limited supply of free loaner fishing tackle and bait provided or bring your own is preferred. The best fishing bait is shrimp and chicken hearts from HEB rigged tandem on a double bottom clear fishing leader with the red beads. These baits are hard to throw off your hook!


Nice trophies and prizes will be awarded for the top three longest fish caught in each age group. If you cannot attend, the fishing will be great here for the next two weeks afterwards because only 50-100 catfish are usually caught out of 600 stocked at this youth fishing tournament depending on the weather. Fish On!!! 🎣🐟

SHSU Merit Badge Day

Sam Houston State University (SHSU) is holding their annual Boy Scout Merit Badge Day on March 7, 2017.  This is a great opportunity to earn merit badges you've tried to forget about. You can learn unique merit badges and be taught by college professors. Cost is $35 and includes breakfast and lunch.

Lone Star Fellowship 2016

OA Section SR2-3S will be holding it's premier annual event the weekend of July 15-17 at a new venue, the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio.  


The weekend will be filled with Shows, Fellowship, Arrowman Discoveries, American Indian Competitions, Ceremony Competitions, and Lodge Program Competitions.  


The EPICenter happens Saturday morning with almost 50 booths of activities and vendors.   You can't miss the Arrowman Bash and Lodge-a-Palooza!   Lots of fun and food!


Section officer elections will be held on Saturday.  If you are interested in becoming a Section Officer please contact Lodge Adviser, Alan El-lahham for more information.   Lodge Advisers must approve candidates before they can be considered to run.


If you can't make the whole weekend at least come for the day.  Day passes are available at a reduced price. You won't be disappointed.

Wood Badge Course Available

Wood Badge is designed for Cub Scout, Boy Scout, Venturing, Sea Scout, and Varsity Leaders at the unit level, as well as district and council leaders. The course content and leadership principles introduced apply to Scouters in all leadership positions. These skills provide a leadership foundation that is beneficial for all program area. 

 Here is a great opportunity to attend 21st Century Wood Badge this fall in the Sam Houston Area Council. The courses will be held at Bovay Scout Ranch near Navasota, TX and run 6 days over two separate weekends. More Wood Badge information can be found at SHAC Wood Badge

National Jamboree News!

The 2017 Jamboree will cost $1,975 instead of $3,025 since Scouts will no longer be in Washington DC before the Jamboree. The price includes Jamboree entry, transportation to the Jamboree, and food provided.
