First Class

First Class scouts work on building their outdoor survival and camping skills. Navigating with a compass, plant observation, cooking and meal planning, knots and lashings, and safe boating where new skills are mastered and demonstrated. A first class scout, having completed all the requirements, should be able to plan and cook meals on a campout, navigate with a compass, set up a campsite using Leave no Trace principles, and perform basic rescue skills and advanced first aid.

The Troop 584 Guidance on the Troop 584 Guidance on the First Class scout rank requirements word document provides boys guidance on how to successfully complete the requirements for First Class and whether the requirements need to be completed on an outing or can be accomplished at a regular troop meeting.

Once the boy scout completes the first eleven First Class requirements, he should contact an assistant Scoutmaster for First Class (ASM Roster) and request a Scout Spirit discussion before arranging a Scoutmaster conference.
